Cave Domica

Domica Cave is located close to the state border with Hungary, on the southwest edge of the Silická Plateau in the Slovak Karst national park, about 10 kilometers from Plešivec (a village between the cities Rožňava and Tornaľa). This “Pride of Gemer” constitutes a single genetic unit with the Hungarian Baradla Cave and it is the result of a lengthy erosive process caused by water. The path that leads through the Slovakian part of the cave is 7 km out of the total length – 23 km.

In addition to its major geomorphological value, the cave also attracts visitors by the numerous archaeological finds and an abundant occurrence of flowstone shields, drums and rimstone lakes, as well as many species of bats. The cave offers an interesting tourist attraction – a voyage on the river Styx, which is a part of the sightseeing tour. The entrance into the cave lies 339 meters above the sea level and the cave offers two sightseeing trails. The longer one has 1180 meters (tour takes approximately 60 minutes), the shorter one 780 meters (approximately 45 minutes).

Domica is the most famous and longest cave of the Slovak Karst national park. It has been listed as a UNESCO national and cultural heritage due to its value and unique decorative features.
