Tatranská Lomnica

Tatranská Lomnica is one of the largest and most beautiful settlements in the High Tatras and is also a centre of tourism and sport. It is located 6 km east of Smokovec, at the foot of Lomnický Peak. In 1892, the first state health resort in the High Tatras was founded as well as another of Tatra settlements-Tatranská Lomnica. The Lomnica Hotel was built in 1893, at that time the biggest hotel in the High Tatras, and later a noteworthy Kúpeľný dom (bathhouse), with a swimming pool and hydrotherapy. The village gained its main tourist attraction between the years 1937 – 1940, when the cable car from Tatranská Lomnica to Skalnaté pleso and Lomnický štít was built. Network of accommodation and catering facilities in Tatranská Lomnica started to change remarkably after 1989. Today, new facilities for sports and recreational activities are still being added – swimming pools, tennis courts, fitness centres, casinos and sports equipment rentals. In the winter, ice skating, downhill slopes of varying difficulty, cross-country skiing and ski kindergartens. In Tatranská Lomnica, you can visit the interesting Museum of TANAP.
