Slovak Paradise

Slovak Paradise National Park is located in the eastern part of Slovakia, in the Spiš region, south of the Hornád Basin. It has an area of about 210 km² and forests cover up to 90% of its territory. It is located within the territory of the districts of Spišská Nová Ves, Poprad and Rožňava. The Hornád and Hnilec Rivers flow through the park. The highest mountains are Veľká Knola (1, 266 m) and Havrania skala (1,157 m). The Slovak Paradise is a rugged karst area with many gorges with waterfalls (Suchá Belá, Kyseľ, Piecky, Sokolia Valley, Zejmarská Ravine), narrow valleys, canyons and underground caves (Dobšinská ľadová jaskyňa). The villages with historical sights are located in the immediate vicinity of the national park (Spišská Nová Ves, Markušovce, Spišský Štvrtok, Hrabušice) as well as tourist resorts offering accommodation (Čingov, Kláštorisko, Podlesok, Dedinky). The Slovak Paradise is considered one of the most beautiful natural sites in Slovakia and tourists can visit it all year round. The national park offers more than 300 km of marked hiking trails and five educational paths to help explore surrounding nature. Extremely high concentration of narrow ravines touching each other and diversity of fauna and flora is unprecedented anywhere in the world.
