Vlkolínec

d 190x121 VlkolínecThe architectural reservation Vlkolínec is situated in the Great Fatra mountain range, in 718 meters under Sidorovo peak. This village has retained 45 original, almost untouched folk houses from the 19th century with stone socles, clay walls and wood shingles. The houses and the nearby agricultural buildings are an ideal image of a typical Slovak mountain village with all its features. It is a live architectural museum of Slovak mountain life in its original location. It is the only village in Slovakia where no new houses built since the 19th century. Vlkolínec became a cultural reservation in 1977 and a UNESCO cultural heritage in 1993.
