Spa Sliač
The spa town of Sliač is located in the western part of the Zvolen Basin between Banská Bystrica and Zvolen above the valley of the river Hron in wooded countryside, surrounded by parks. The oldest written record of Sliač springs dates back to the year 1244, the time of King Bela IV. Sliač became a spa as early as the 16th century. In the past, it was one of the most popular spa resorts in Austria-Hungary. Sliač owes its popularity and appeal to the healing effects of its mineral waters and its prominent guests. The spa source is sulphate – bicarbonate, magnesium – calcium water rich in carbon dioxide, with a temperature of 33.3 ° C. There are only four known spas with mineral springs of a natural isothermal temperature high in carbon dioxide in the world. However, only one of these springs is located in Central Europe – in the spa town of Sliač. The spa is now a highly professional medical facility, specialized in the treatment of patients with diseases of the circulatory system, patients who underwent cardiac surgery and patients with heart valve defects. The surrounding countryside offers ideal opportunities for hiking, as well as for short walks. The spa is intersected by three marked hiking trails, the town offers a thermal swimming pool and a nearby golf course.
